Haven't been to a warped tour since 2003....
Understand completely the "feeling old" bit.... When I was in high school I went to warped every year...After I graduated and went to college I just went to shows-lone concerts and such. When I was in San Fran a few years ago, I actually went to warped- a kind of nostalgia experiment. It was a lot different then how it used to be. I remember it used to BE about the music. People knew the bands and knew the words to the songs. This was back in the original punk days. Back when punk was punk and had a voice not this stuff they play on the radio now..what i deem "pop-punk." Kids at that last warped just walked around interested in collecting stuff to add to their "punk-look"...they weren't listening to the music...didn't even seem interested in the artists. It's like warp had lost its' heart when punk sold out it's voice.....
Warped Tour 08
It was a hot, hot, hot, HOT day. I woke up excited for this event. Ran around my apartment with my roommate, Karla, getting ready for the day ahead. On the walk to Vinoy Park, we began experiencing the heat that would envelop the events of the day ahead. Dark clouds followed us on the walk, making us hope for rain. the rain never came, though. While arriving at Vinoy Park, I noticed vans parked along the side walk. There were guys taking showers with water hoses, and hanging their clothes up on trees. I was sure those were some of the smaller bands following behind the tour. Bands rarely heard of hoping for their big break. See, Warped Tour has been a big break for many bands through the tour's history. One band I can really point out was My Chemical Romance. I remember seeing them at warped '04 before they blew up. Now, they are one of the most popular bands out their. I felt nostalgic at warped, for the days when I was 18,19,20, when music felt fresh and new. At this years Warped, I felt my age, I felt older.
